LADLAD PARTYLIST TO GET COMELEC ACCREDITATION

Philstar.com / Yahoo news

MANILA, Philippines — A partylist that represents members of the so-called "Third Sex" or homosexuals and transgenders will most likely get the accreditation from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in time to join the polls next year, an official said today.

Ladlad head Danton Remoto said they are confident to get the nod of the poll body, paving the way for them to participate in the 2010 elections. "The Comelec has talked to us and told us that we will only have to prove that we have a national membership," Remoto said.

Ladlad has a 22,000 current membership and affiliates nationwide, "We also have 10 regional chapters in the country," the Ladlad chief added.

The Comelec has thumbed down Ladlad's accreditation during last 2007 elections, saying that the partylist does not represent a marginalized and underpriviledged sector of society.

Remoto said they also optimistic to get one of the 55 slots alloted for the partylist representatives in next year's polls despite lacking the political machinery and financial resources during the campaign. "What we have now is good for provincial sorties but not for national campaign," he said.

Meanwhile, Remoto said big political parties have already expressed their intention to forge an alliance with Ladlad. Among the political parties include the Liberal Party and the Nationalist People's Coalition, Remoto said.

"By August or September, we'll decide which party to join," he said, noting both LP and NPC are eyeing to ink an alliance agreement with Ladlad. - (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)

Discrimination (Again) at Aruba Bar: BB Gandanghari Refused Entry

Aruba Bar in Metrowalk has done it again. This bar, which reeks of discrimination, has continually refused entry to transgenders via a sign at the entrance: No Cross-Dressing. BB Gandanghari went to Aruba Bar & Restaurant because she wanted to watch her friend Rannie Raymundo’s show. But she and her friends were denied entry because they were cross-dressing. A similar incident happened not so long ago - at the same bar, to a different person: Inday Garutay. Continue Reading
